IUCN’s Organizational Development and Change process is led by the Director General with the specific aim of bringing about systematic change in IUCN as a formal, regular and high priority of the responsibilities of the DG and senior management.
The Change agenda has been defined by the diagnosis of a number of processes, including the 2007 External Review of IUCN, the Regionalization and Decentralization Study and the Council-Secretariat One Programme Working Group.
These, and numerous useful discussions with, and feedback from, internal and external stakeholders, and information and recommendations found in various IUCN documents have been very useful in the DG’s determination to bring about the needed change in an organization which has a great deal of merit and an important place in the world, and which also deserves to have its focus further sharpened and delivery systems up-graded.
The timeline for this organizational development and change process will be 2008 to 2011, with recommendations made on specific issues followed by immediate implementation when possible. If required, proposals will be formulated to the 2012 Congress to change the Statutes and Regulations. The first meeting of the new Council in 2009 was an important step in this process, to ensure that members of the new Council (2009-2012) are fully supportive of the plans for change.
We will update this page regularly with news and documentation on the changes that are happening in IUCN.
