Keith Wheeler to lead stream at World Parks Congress for CEC
05 March 2014 | Article
Engaging youth in nature is an important issue on the conservation agenda, with a 'stream' at the IUCN World Parks Congress dedicated to inspiring a new generation. It was also on the annual meeting agenda of the Canadian Committee of IUCN.
Keith Wheeler, former Chair of the IUCN Commission on Education and Communication, will co-Chair the stream titled 'Inspiring a New Generation' for CEC at the IUCN World Parks Congress with Nik Loupkhine, former Chair of the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas and Mr. Alan Latourelle, CEO of Park's Canada. The role of youth at the Congress, which will be held in November in Sydney, was the topic of the annual meeting of the Canadian Committee of IUCN, which Keith attended for CEC in January in Ottawa.
Inspiring a New Generation
Inspiring a New Generation will empower the growth of a dynamic global movement to experience, be inspired by, value and conserve nature. This stream encourages forward-looking multi-media workshops, presentations and discussions on innovative programs to support the public’s discovery of and connection to nature – in their parks, cities and schools, through new media and through innovative partnerships. This stream will further bring the powerful voices of today’s generation of young leaders within the parks and conservation community to the Congress, sharing their knowledge, experiences, skills, perspectives, taking leadership and being inspired and inspiring others to connect with nature. We encourage contributions from young people. Our powerful legacy will support a shared vision to connect a new generation to nature and ensure new leadership and engagement of young people for intergenerational partnerships for parks, people and planet. INSPIRE and BE INSPIRED BY A NEW GENERATION!
