IUCN CEC would like to thank Dr. Simon Nemtzov, a scientist in Isreal, for volunteering to translate the video 'Love. Not Loss.' into Hebrew. "The way to inspire people to action to protect our wonderful world is not through more stories of "doom and gloom" but rather to show them the wonderment and marvels in the beauty of nature," he says.

Dr. Simon Nemtzov is with the Israel Nature and Parks Authority, an IUCN member organization. He is Coordinator for International Treaties and Scientific Authority for the CITES Convention. Though not a member of the IUCN Commission on Education Communication, his efforts to provide Hebrew sub-titles for the popular video are a direct and generous contribution to biodiversity communication

CEC asked Dr. Nemtzov what inspired him to proved sub-titles?

  • "I decided to add the Hebrew subtitles to the "Love Not Loss" video because I wanted to get the people I work with in Israel to properly understand its meaning. The message of the video really struck a chord for me. It echoed my own feelings, that the way to inspire people to action to protect our wonderful world is not through more stories of "doom and gloom" but rather to show them the wonderment and marvels in the beauty of nature. We scientists don't always know how to explain what we mean to the public. We need to understand that the fabulous diversity and marvels of nature that we are so used to working with, are tremendously awe-inspiring for the public when they see and hear about them."
