CEESP Deputy Chair Richard Cellarius appointed to the IUCN-ICMM Review of Biodiversity Performance Project Steering Committee

After over 10 years of interaction, IUCN and the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) have commenced a project to review the outcomes of that interaction, i.e., to evaluate improvements in ICMM members’ biodiversity performance. The plan is to have a report prepared for presentation at the 2014 World Parks Congress.
Phase 1 of the project will be guided by a Project Steering Group (PSG) whose core responsibility is “to provide input to, and oversight of, the project,” as stated in the PSG’s Terms of Reference (TOR). This Steering Group is similar in structure and purpose as the ICMM-IUCN Advisory Group, which assisted ICMM in developing the Good Practice Guidance for Mining and Biodiversity (GPG), published by ICMM in 2006.
Dr. Cellarius was IUCN Co-Chair of that Group and has continued to participate in discussions between IUCN and ICMM.
