2. The environment and Sustainable Development Unit (ESDU) of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) for further distribution to OECS member states and regional partners.

A digital copy will be sent to country representatives of TNC to read and influence policy makers they are working with in Latin America Region.

Translate the summary into Turkish and send to CBD Focal Points, experts, PA managers and Ministry of Environment and Forest through email/letter.

We will also put it in our WWV Turkey’s web page. News on the summit was already uploaded on our web with linkages of IUCN.

We will organize “Protected Areas & Climate Change workshop” in January 2010 and ask authors to present the book.

As WWF Turkey, we will publish a book on Pas & Benefits & Values with a chapter on Climate Change.

It will have a target audience of general public to understand the values & benefits and will be sent to officials to have a new vision on these topics.

I will use this book to build the case with the Ministry of Environment and congress that PA are part/central part of Mexico’s adaptation + mitigation strategy. Also to develop the communication materials for PA visitors and managers.

The summit gave me a stronger argument and concrete ideas on how to develop a climate change strategy for protected areas in Mexico

First, I would address special thanks to IUCN for the amount and quality of documents distributed along the meeting. Solutions will sure keep attention of stakeholders and help reflexions about PA-EBA at national level (case of Tunisia). The book NS will be shared with national focal points CBD-UNFCC, UNCCD – Barcelona Convention and protocols in Tunisia. Perhaps, IUCN will give assistance through case studies, in a workshop to design and agree a common position regarding CC-PA and implement demonstratives actions.

The summit was important to translate from classical action to a concrete, efficient and innovative existing concept that is protected areas and mitigation and adaptation based on eco-systems.

It's time conservation of biodiversity got into the climate change map and this meeting and particularly this book is definetly going to take the agenda forward.

Communication must be a part of it from the beginning, even from the planification of the meeting. The Commission on Education and Communication is ready to offer its support on this.

I would like to express my thanks to IUCN for inviting me to the Granada meeting.

I would also like to suggest that a condensed (maximum) one page executive summary (or policy brief) type document might be sent by e-mail from Granada participants to high ranking officials (elected and staff) participating or sending delegations to Copenhagen, as part of the campaign to show that PAs are actually a good solution for mitigation and adaptation.

1. Presenting copy of the book with a summary page to the Prime Minister who puts climate change on the top of his priorities, and who will be in Copenhagen next month.

Distribute summaries preferably with introduction highlighting applicability to:

• All federal MPs
• Key State and Territory government Ministers.
•  All members of WCPAs (which includes all heads of park agencies & major NGOs)

Success for me of this Summit was to find out how much development agencies are ready to support the eco-system based approach.

Next Nov. 24th, I will give to Mr. Ferrate, Guatemala Minister of Environment, a copy of the book. I talk about Protected Areas & Climate Change Adaptation. I hope he will use the information for increase the PA issue on the National position in Copenhagen.

I will ensure that Natural Solutions if distributed through Parks Canada, to all member agencies of the World Protected Areas Forum (WPALF) and to other implicated Government and Canada ministries

I will take a copy to the Director of Natural Parks, Australia with an offer to provide a seminar/discussion with senior staff to brief them on the discussion from Granada

Take the great work done in this book “Natural Solutions” to apply as an evolving concept & leading message in our huge challenge faced by climate change.

1. Distribute the book to seven ministries of environment in seven countries (Mauritania, Sénégal, The Gambia, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra-Leone)
2. Distribute to the seven CC focal points in the 7 countries.
3. Post news on the book on 6 websites (RAMPAO/FIBA/PRCM/IUCN West Africa /WWF/ Wamer/Wetlands International Africa).
4. Prepare news on the book in Newspaper.
5. Lobby for translation into French

Give the book to senior HSBC executive in Hong Kong – requesting assistance in economic arguments/research to strengthen Natural Solutions case studies.

The synergies finalised between climate change, biodiversity and protected areas is most essential

I will share the book & the message with my project management unit, and officials of Turkish Moff General Directorate of Nature Conservation & National Parks via powerpoint presentation, and with Moff Deputy undersecretary in person (I need 5 books)

Give the publication to:

• World Bank missions
• Selected Ministers of Environment/Delegations to UNFCC

• Use the “Natural Solutions” publication to extract relevant information that could be used to prepare the National Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Strategy.
• To bring this information to decision makers dealing with climate change in the Ministry of the Environment. Circulate this information to other colleagues working on protected areas and climate change issues in Cuba, including the National IPCC Team.

Promote the book through WWF – Vietnam, freshwater program working on establishing Freshwater Pas in Vietnam. Protected Areas Authority in Vietnam. PAs practitioners in Vietnam and other conservationist working on Pas issues. Climate change adaptation campaigners in Vietnam.

I would like to use the book to communicate among 10 project leaders of PA economic valuation projects. I would suggest and help them to include climate change adaptation & mitigation criteria in the studies & TORs . Includes studies for 10 countries.

Present it to the Biodiversity Platform in Bolivia – where donors, NGOs coordinate with the Vice ministry of Biodiversity and Climate Change. Present it to the protected area specialist of Bolivia to develop examples of Bolivia to have a Bolivian version of “Natural Solutions”

The workshop was essential and we will implement it at the level of protected area managers and we will be able to help the meeting for all the protected area staff in Egypt and give them the experience and what we can take to the Climate Change COP from Egypt espescially for mountain and marine protected areas.

• Gather case studies of the region
• Send to decision makers.
• Translate to Arabic and sent to North African Red Sea, and Middle East.

• Present the book to the responsible of protected areas in Andalucia (Spain)

Le Congrès est d’une importance capitale surtout pour l’Afrique. Nos aires protégées sont confrontées à plusieurs problèmes dus aux changements climatiques.

A mon retour au pays, je ferai une démultiplication de l’information reçue pour les changements climatiques et aires protégées. Le document va constituer un mémento pour les changements climatiques et AP. Je pourrai l’utiliser pour animer des débats sur le projet. A travers le groupe des jeunes de la CMAP, je ferai large diffusion de l’info mais aussi au niveau de me promotionnaires du Master Gestion des AP (promo 2009). Pour un meilleur accès aux documents pour l’Afrique francophone il serait nécessaire de les traduire en français.

Il faut diviser l'information au niveau des differentes nations. En abordant ce genre de thèmes l'équité et la representation des jeunes doit être mis en excerbe

• Send a letter to the Senegalese Ministry if Environment with the executive summary attached, encouraging him to use some of these arguments and to call for “National Solutions” during the high level segment at Copenhagen.
• Organize a specific session on “natural Solutions” during the upcoming CBD/POWPA focal points regional meeting in West Africa in preparation to Nagoya.
• Catalyze regional discussion, in the framework of the regional programme on marine & coastal conservation in West Africa in PA2CC based on the findings and recommendations from “Natural Solutions”

The most important message to decision makers is for them to realise that protected areas are one of the most important tools fo address local development and help prepare to cope with climate change.

I could distribute “Natural Solutions” during the workshop on PA-CC+ Ecol. Networks, at the EU Spanish Presidency Conference – Jan 2010, but there will be others from IUCN who could bring these from HQ.
