Pierre Hunkeler, Switzerland

Pierre Hunkeler, Switzerland, has a degree in Biology and a PhD from the University of Neuchatel. His main fields of interests are the conservation of the natural environment and the relationships between man and nature. His professional experience has included directing the Swiss Scientific Research Centre in Côte d’Ivoire (1967-1970), project development for a pharmaceutical company, (1971-1974); working in several different capacities at the IUCN Secretariat, (1974–1981) working with a consulting company on applied ecology (1982-1990); lecturing in management of the natural environment at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (1986-1998). From 1982 to 2003 he was Executive Secretary of an NGO with more than 9000 members and many field activities. He has carried out numerous missions in Europe and overseas, as a consultant for various international organizations, in particular, the Council of Europe. Semi-retired, he is still active in nature protection, local politics and music.
