05 November 2009 | News story
The Natureandpoverty.net programme, coordinated by the IUCN Netherlands National Committee, is a learning network to facilitate linking and learning between Non-Governmental Organisations working in the field of nature conservation and poverty alleviation. As part of this programme they have just launched a new online interactive platform: Natureandpoverty.net
Natureandpoverty.net aims to be the platform for practitioners working on ecosystem management and poverty alleviation, and was set up to increase understanding and effective action on the linkage between nature conservation and poverty alleviation.
A key element in the design and set up of the platform is an open and bottom-up approach aimed at establishing an interactive community of practitioners. The platform facilitates linking and learning between individuals and Non-Governmental Organisations.
A number of IUCN Members are involved in this programme, including: The Avalon Foundation, The Institute of Environmental Sciences ( CML ),Tropenbos International, Birdlife Netherlands, The Netherlands Society for Nature and Environment ( SNM ), Wetlands International, the Netherlands Centre for Indigenous Peoples ( NCIV ), Both Ends - Environment and Development Service for NGOs and WWF Netherlands.
Natureandpoverty.net offers the following tools to its users:
- Connect: a tool that helps you connect with people and organisations
- Share: a tool that allows you to share your experiences, practices and lessons learned that could be beneficial to others working in the same field
- Find: a tool that will help you find practices, case studies, tools and resources that are useful for your work
IUCN Members who are interested in getting involved can find more information on the Natureandpoverty.net website.
