To mark the 11th day of the 11th month of 2011, the IUCN flag, attached with colourful balloons was hoisted into the air at 11.11 am by students of Jahangir Nagar University campus which is famous for its natural environment surroundings.
The event was arranged by IUCN Bangladesh as part of the campaign for One Day on Earth which is supported by more than 60 charities and humanitarian organizations including the United Nations, World Wildlife Fund and Oxfam International.
The event also saw IUCN Bangladesh and university students take part in planting 11 trees and releasing 11 fish into a pond. The team then visited the Wildlife Rescue Sanctuary of the university to create awareness of wildlife conservation among the participants.
One Day on Earth started in September of 2008 with the goal of creating a unique worldwide media event where thousands of participants would simultaneously film over a 24-hour period to produce a universal form of communication—cinema.
IUCN hopes the film will assist in promoting IUCN and the sustainable management of biodiversity.
The film is expected to be released through social media sites soon.
