The World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) have joined with the Conservation Breeding Specialist Group (CBSG) and ASG to form the Amphibian Ark or AArk for short. The AArk vision is for the world’s amphibians to live safely in nature. Its mission is to work with partners to ensure the global survival of amphibians, focusing on those that cannot be safeguarded in nature. The AArk works to:
- Rescues priority species and brings them into “protective custody” in zoos, aquariums, botanical gardens research centers and other institutions around the world for safekeeping and breeding.
- The rescued species will be released into the wild when the original threats have been controlled.
- Lead development and implementation of training programs for building capacity of individuals and institutions.
- Develop communication strategies, messages, and materials to promote understanding and action on behalf of amphibian conservation.
