Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS)
Mission:
A non-governmental organization founded in 1883, the Society houses a large specimen collection of fauna and flora of the Indian subcontinent. It also undertakes research projects aimed at conserving fauna, flora and their habitat, disseminates awareness and knowledge on these through publications, books, etc. The Society`s Journal has been in continuous publication since 1886, and is now in its 93rd volume. Affiliated to the university of Mumbai for postgraduate studies in field ornithology since 1957, the affiliation now also includes other disciplines. Awareness programmes for members and students are arranged through field trips to protected and other areas in different habitat types. The Society also runs a conservation education centre near Mumbai.
