Regional workshop report on trans-boundary timber flow – problem identification and capacity building needs assessment in the ENPI FLEG region
The Regional Workshop on Transboundary Timber Flow took place in Tbilisi on 17-18 November 2010. The workshop was organised by WWF-Caucasus Programme Office in the framework of the Regional Program: Improving Forest Law Enforcement and Governance in the European Neighborhood Policy East Countries and Russia. The program is being implemented by the World Bank in partnership with IUCN and WWF with support from the EU and other donors.
The main objectives of the workshop were to assess the current situation with respect to transboundary timber trade in the countries of the FLEG Program and identify existing problems/weaknesses in terms of legislation, relevant documentation, customs procedures and capacities, which create favourable grounds for wood smuggling and other illegal activities. The expected outcomes of the workshop were specific recommendations on how to reduce the risk of illegal transboundary timber trade.
