The IUCN Caribbean Red List component of the programme aims to provide a rigorous assessment of biodiversity status and trends in the insular Caribbean. Biodiversity data will be put into the public domain to inform decision-making processes. This information will support implementation of the Protocol on Specially Protected Areas and Wildlife and compliance with the Convention on Biological Diversity.
The main objectives are to:
- Improve understanding of the importance of biodiversity to human well being;
- Predict future trends in biodiversity
- Build regional capacity to implement new approaches to conservation and management,
