The IUCN USA Multilateral Office serves as a global embassy for IUCN and is located in Washington D.C. The Multilateral Office provides vital linkages for the Union and its member organizations, Commission members, Council, partners and donors to key US-based institutions such as Government agencies, environmental NGOs, the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, the Global Environment Facility (GEF), United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and a variety of foundations. In addition, the office manages the IUCN Permanent Observer Mission to the United Nations in New York City.
Objectives of the IUCN USA Multilateral Office also include:
- To develop specific policy and programmatic initiatives as support to the Union and catalyze networking among IUCN constituencies and programmes;
- To facilitate collaborative agreements and policy dialogue with US-based international institutions; and
- To develop a diversified fundraising strategy with US-based donor institutions.
Situated just one block north of Dupont Circle in northwest Washington, the office coordinates and houses key global programs and staff for the Union and its members.
