The region is characterised by extreme poverty, and poorly controlled extraction of forest products, including illegal logging. Sensitising local stakeholders to the potential for management of TNS to contribute to conservation and poverty alleviation will be an important starting point in improving dialogue between stakeholders. TNS is a source for many traditional NTFPS including bush meat, and one of the main focuses of Livelihoods and Landscapes interventions will be the improving the efficiency of the marketing chains of forest and agricultural  products. Forest Law Enforcement and Government activities will attempt to improve control over logging and exploitation of wildlife, and Livelihoods and Landscapes will support the implementation of the IUCN-ITTO guidelines for the management of biodiversity in two forest concessions in Congo and Cameroon. A particular focus will also be securing the traditional rights of the Baka People (Pygmies) to forest resources. Partners include PROFOR, WWF, CIFOR, TRAFFIC.
