Our work in Tanzania

Livelihoods and Landscapes will build on, and add value to, on-going Village Environment Management Plans that IUCN has been involved in since 1998. In selected villages, Livelihoods and Landscapes will promote integrated approaches to resources management with special emphasis on implementation of the targets of the National Economic Growth and Poverty Reduction Strategy, and implementation of natural resources and environmental laws.

Key activities for Livelihoods and Landscapes in Tanzania include:

Establishing strong baselines for the activities, especially in Pangani and Mufindi
Supporting community based natural resource and forest management in Rufiji, and piloting such approached with WANI in selected sites in Pangani, and with Unilever in Mufindi forest area
Supporting non wood forest product processing, marketing and value chains (Allanblackia, honey, crafts)
Improving community based forest governance, and supporting a multi-village collaborative management agreement for one important forest in the Rufiji area.
