“The next great ecological awakening will have to be an internal one”
(Presence: Exploring Profound Change in People, Organizations and Society, 2006)

The organizational leadership and culture, the motivation and capacities of individuals, and the manner in which knowledge is shared and reintroduced to improve core activities can determine the degrees of success in an organisation. Often these processes and organizational assets go unnoticed, uncaptured or unspoken in the hustle of our daily work.

However, when these individual and team practices and aspirations around effective learning and leadership become more explicit, and support exists to further build capacities in these key areas, space opens for innovation and experimentation that can lead to significant change, and even greater impact.
We believe that positive change in an organisation happens when:

  • we foster a culture of knowledge creation, sharing and learning across organisational boundaries, internal and external;
  • we actively cultivate new and existing capacities, approaches and relationships for increased influence and change;
  •  we take personal responsibility and leadership in converting our knowledge and learning into action;
  • we build capacities, internally as well as those of our partners and members, in learning and leadership so a ripple effect occurs amongst the sustainability community as a whole;
  • we create opportunities and learning environments where relationships can be built and peer-learning can be at its most effective;
  • and when we recognise that organizations, as well as the people in them, will be most effective when they reflect the change they want to see in the world.
