The total energy used by all of human civilization increases year after year. It involves all energy harnessed from every energy source we use, applied towards humanity's efforts across every industrial and technological sector, across every country.
Earth Hour is held worldwide annually encouraging individuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. on the last Saturday in March, as a symbol for their commitment to the planet.
Earth Hour's mission is three-fold; to bring people together through a symbolic hour-long event, to galvanize people into taking action beyond the hour and to create an interconnected global community sharing the mutual goal of creating a sustainable future for the planet.
Al Urdonia Lil Ebda’ hosted a student, renewable energy video contest in the frame of Earth Hour. The closure event occurred in Al Karak Castle Panorama – Al Karak on Saturday 29/3/2014 at 6:00 pm as students, parents, teachers and delegations celebrated Earth Hour. The lights of Al Karak Castle turned off and candles lighted by everyone. Several hotels and businesses throughout Jordan, as well as IUCN Members, also celebrate Earth Hour .
Participation in Earth Hour symbolizes a commitment to change beyond the hour.
