Tanzania’s Minister of State in the Vice President Office (Environment), Dr Terezya Huvisa, has called on IUCN to engage more strongly in environmental conservation, but also help people tackle poverty in both urban and rural areas of Tanzania. The Minister said this when the IUCN Head of Tanzania office, Mr Abdalla Shah called on her to brief her on IUCN’s work in the country.
During the meeting, the minister appreciated the visit and highlighted some of her main priorities which include sustainable development at all levels and sound management of the urban environment, including ensuring the cleanliness of urban areas. She suggested another meeting in June 2011 to further engage and identify areas of potential collaboration.
During a press briefing in February this year, the Minister announced an environmental cleanliness campaign to ensure a less polluted and clean environment.
