Twenty Syrian biodiversity experts participated in a 6-day training workshop on Marine Protected Areas Management and Planning, which was conducted by IUCN Regional Office for West Asia (ROWA) in partnership with the Syrian Ministry of Environment.
The workshop, which was held during 7-12 October 2009 in Lattakia – Syria, focused on building the capacities of the Ministry’s biodiversity team in a step to activate their role in the planning and management processes for MPAs in their country.
This training is part of a series of workshops held for relevant stakeholders in Syria in partnership between IUCN and the Syrian Ministry of Environment, and funded by Hans Seidel Foundation and the Regional Activity Center for Special Protected Areas (RAC/SPA). Two similar previous workshops were held in Lattakia and Damascus during the first half of 2009.
