Ministers gather in Nagoya

Senior ministers from more than 120 countries and five heads of state rolled in today to start the High Level Segment of the 10th Conference of the Parties (COP 10) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) held in Nagoya, Japan.

Delegates from the CBD's 193 member countries, business leaders and non-governmental organizations have been gathered since October 18 to discuss how to curb the rate of species extinction and environmental destruction.

IUCN’s Sonia Pena Moreno was at the meeting with government leaders, where Japan promised some 2 billion dollars for the work that comes out of Nagoya.
