PA Programme participates in WCPA/CEC Steering Committee Meeting in Ecuador

IUCN ROWA Protected Areas Programme Officer, Khadloun Alomari has participated in the Joint Steering Committee Meeting of the World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA) and Commission on Education and Communication (CEC) that took place in Quito, Ecuador on 11-15 May, 2009.

In the presence of WCPA Chair, Nik Lopoukhine and CEC Chair, Keith Wheeler, highlighted the importance of strengthening capacity building and communication for protected area management and conservation. The meeting also aimed at starting up a dialogue with regional programmes to define key priority issues for joint actions between WCPA, the global IUCN Programme on Protected Areas and IUCN Regional focal points for protected areas. This historic meeting provided a platform to exchange ideas and learning, and to enable the two Commissions to contribute to the One Programme concept. The meeting was generously supported by the Ecuadorian Ministry of the Environment and IUCN.
