IUCN stakeholder meeting in Palestine

Within the IUCN Director General mission to the West Asia region she also visited Jenin in Palestine where she took a tour to a number of protected areas and sites there. She met with the Jenin Deputy Governor Mr. Abdullah Barakat and the government departments' directors as well as other stakeholders in Jenin.
The meeting tackled a number of environmental challenges facing the governorate and the importance of joining forces to overcome those challenges. Accompanying the DG were IUCN ROWA Regional Programme Coordinator Peter Laban, Dr. Walid Al Basha from the Arab American University and Imad Al Atrash from the Palestine Wildlife Society.
The DG also attended a national meeting in Ramallah with ministry representatives and a number of national stakeholders. Ministry of Agriculture Secretary General Dr. Azzam Tubeileh highlighted the state of agriculture in Palestine. In addition, IUCN presented its Palestine strategy to the participants who called upon accepting Palestine as an IUCN member considering its rich biodiversity and uniqueness.
