On March 27, 2010 an Award Ceremony for Tusheti Junior Rangers was held in Alvani, Georgia.
IUCN Programme Office for the Southern Caucasus together with European Partnership Foundation Georgia (EPF) and Agency of Protected Areas (APA) handed Junior Ranger certificates and small gifts for winners and participants of the first round of the Junior Ranger Programme held in Alvani schools.
The Junior Ranger Programme was developed under the EPF project Facilitating Stakeholder Participation in Management of Protected Areas of Georgia. In the framework of this project
IUCN POSC held training sessions in Alvani schools. Juinor Rangers were trained in project cycle management and campaigning and guest speakers from the Tusheti Protected Area Administration held seminars on Protected Areas of Georgia and the cultural heritage of Tusheti. An essay- writing contest was also held and winners of this contest presented their essays at the award ceremony. The head of the APA, Giorgi Shonvadze, stated that Junior Rangers gave their presentations in a very professional manner: “Recently I attended a conference of college students and the presentations given by our Junior Rangers are comparable to that level.”
Junior Rangers will participate in different campaigns and projects held in the Protected Areas of Georgia.
