On Wednesday, 04 July, 2012, the IUCN Environmental Law Centre and the IUCN Global Policy Unit held a side event at the second meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Nagoya Protocol (ICNP-2) in New Delhi, in order to present the third draft of an IUCN Explanatory Guide to the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization to the Convention on Biological Diversity. This Guide will facilitate a clear understanding of the text of the ABS Protocol and the resulting obligations for the Parties to the Convention. Furthermore, it will provide guidance for the development of ABS legislation and implementation at the national level. …
