2011 Year of France Overseas

The Government of France has launched the Year of Overseas (Année des outre-mer) to uncover the wealth of France overseas. The year will focus on culture, institutions, sustainable development, economics and business, handicrafts, tourism, recreation and leisure.

The thematic programme consists of Spectacle Living; Expositions, museums, patrimony; Literature; Movies; Multidisciplinary events; Economy, science and sustainable development; Cuisine and flavours, Sports and games; Conferences and debates of ideas.

The Year of Overseas was launched in February 2011 with a conference on the future of coral reefs 'Quel avenir pour les récifs coralliens?'. The conference was opened by Ms Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet, Minister for Ecology, Sustainable Development, Transport and Housing of France, and Ms Marie-Luce Penchard, Minister for Overseas of France.
