Ecosystem science matters for business
03 December 2012 | News story
IUCN and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) recently issued a briefing on business and biodiversity science, which highlights a variety of interactions and opportunities, as well as the current lack of synergies. This briefing also addresses the latest developments of the global expertise on biodiversity and ecosystem services (BES).
Some businesses are not only massive customers, but also producers of data about nature. A new intergovernmental process has been launched to become a clearinghouse for this data. It is the Intergovernmental Science Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) which will influence the way data will be produced and used in the public sphere.
For more information, please have a look on the briefing by visiting this new web section on the IUCN website. There you can learn about the benefits which IPBES can offer business and some ways in which business can contribute to IPBES.
