Workshop - NBSAP

IUCN Hosts a workshop on Food and Nutrition aspects of Biodiversity

On 7 October 2015, food, nutrition and biodiversity experts from around the country met at the Plant Genetic Resource Centre (PGRC) in Gannoruwa, Kandy to discuss linkages between food and nutrition concerns and biodiversity conservation in the context of developing the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP). The workshop was jointly organised by the GEF/UNEP/FAO Project on ‘Biodiversity for Food and Nutrition’ (BFN) implemented by PGRC. IUCN Sri Lanka is the main technical partner to the Biodiversity Secretariat of the Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment for the formulation of the NBSAP for the country. Consultations with different sector groups is part of the process adopted in NBSAP formulation and food and nutrition is one of the key areas where biodiversity plays a key role. …

En attendant l’adoption d’une Directive Cadre qui en découlera, et pour en favoriser l’application sur le terrain dès à présent, le Centre de Coordination des Ressources en Eau (CCRE) de la CEDEAO et l’Union internationale pour la conservation de la nature (UICN) ont organisé deux ateliers au Ghana et Cote d’Ivoire pour la promotion de bonnes pratiques pour l’appropriation de ces lignes directrices par les acteurs nationaux. …

Presence of Preuss’s Red Colobus confirmed in Cross River National Park’s Oban Division

“Persistence in anti-poaching patrolling pays off” according to Inaoyom Imong, Director of the Cross River Landscape for IUCN Member and SOS Grantee, the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS). In 1 year, patrols through the Oban Division of the Cross River National Park (CRNP) Nigeria, have cleared almost 1,000 snares and hundreds of empty shotgun cartridges, discovered 45 hunting camps and arrested half a dozen poachers. But perhaps the cherry on the cake has been the visual confirmation of Critically Endangered Preuss’s Red Colobus (Procolobus preussi) living in the Oban.   …
