The global winner of the competition, selected amongst six candidates representing Asia, English-speaking Africa, French-speaking Africa, Europe, Latin America, and North America & Oceania, receives a cash prize of US$ 5,000.
Each regional winner receives a trophy and a travel grant to attend the global ceremony held at the IUCN World Conservation Congress in Barcelona, Spain in October 2008.
