General criteria for sponsorship
Congress is the opportunity for members to network, showcase their work, learn the latest conservation issues and establish alliances with other IUCN members and partners. The IUCN Secretariat is raising funds to financially support the participation of IUCN member organizations from countries in need (all countries that do not appear on the World Bank’s list of high income countries).
The Secretariat will sponsor a maximum of one delegate per member organization. The Secretariat will promote balance on gender and geographic representation of IUCN members throughout the world. The following criteria will be applied for assigning funding:
- Active members that have paid their dues up to 2007
- Members that come from countries in need.
- Active involvement in the Congress:
- nominated candidates for Council
- submitted proposals for the Forum
- submitted motions for the Members’ Assembly
- nominated candidates for Council
Every sponsored IUCN member will be requested to cover part of the costs of its participation at the World Conservation Congress .
IUCN is not in a position to provide financial support to participants from non-member organizations .
Procedures
The IUCN Membership Focal Points in the regions will be responsible for supporting sponsored members. Each region might establish additional criteria for sponsorship. Funds will be allocated according to the cost of the air flight ticket and the number of eligible members in the region. Twin occupancy is encouraged.
