Experts finalise guidelines for biofuels and invasives

26 October 2009 | News story

On 5-6 October 2009, IUCN hosted a 2nd workshop in Nairobi, Kenya to test the draft guidelines on biofuels and invasive species, thanks to funding from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation.

Participants from government agencies, the Roundtable on Sustainable Biofuels, academia, NGOs and the private sector in Eastern and Southern Africa region and Europe provided detailed feedback on the draft guidelines. The group developed a set of different usage scenarios to highlight how the guidance can support efforts in the region by governments, the private sector and NGOs to minimse the risk of biological invasions posed by existing and future biofuel developments.

The workshop report, background documents, presentations and relevant news articles can be found below.

The guidelines are now finalized and will be published in January 2010.
