Half of Seychelles Islands become protected

The Seychelles Government has announced that it will declare new protected areas in the archipelago, resulting in half (50.59%) of all Seychelles land becoming protected by law. The Cabinet approved the designation of protected areas, which amount to 15.72 km² of land representing 3.53% of Seychelles land territory and total 45,500 hectares. Last year, the Silhouette National Park and the Recif Island Reserve were created, increasing the total area of protected land to 47.06%. …

This image shows the courtship behavior of Indian Bull frogs (Holobatrachus tigerinus). During the monsoon, the breeding males become bright yellow in color, while females remain dull. The prominent blue vocal sacs of male produce strong nasal mating call.
