Introduction
2012 is an important year for the international community and IUCN. The Rio+20 Conference will be held in June and, two months later, the IUCN World Conservation Congress will take place in Jeju. The IUCN Congress will be an opportunity to continue practical discussions on how we move forward in implementing the sustainable development goals. In addition, other important meetings and processes will take place such as the World Water Forum meeting in March.
IUCN, having actively participated in all major environmental events since the middle of the 20th century, enjoys the institutional memory and knowledge to effectively influence the Rio 2012 process. As such, IUCN aims to support the Rio+20 Conference to ensure that it delivers concrete results that can have a positive impact on conservation on the ground.
