John Scanlon appointed as New Secretary General of CITES

The ELP is pleased to share the news that John Scanlon, former Head of the Environmental Law Programme and Director of the Environmental Law Centre, has been appointed as the new Secretary General of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (CITES).

John has had a long and distinguished career in environmental law policy and management at national and international levels. He has outstanding communication and management skills, as well as being an excellent motivator and dynamic team leader. In this Year of Biodiversity 2010 his appointment to CITES is especially welcome and the ELP looks forward to continue working with John and supporting the Convention.
