Community Based Sustainable Management of Tanguar Haor Project (CBSMTHP) took part in Development Fair by having a resourceful and decorative stall at the Rajshahi University campus. The fair was organized by the Embassy of Switzerland in Bangladesh on 2-3 February 2013 in commemoration of 40 years of friendship between Bangladesh and Switzerland. H.E. Dr. Urs Herren, Ambassador of Switzerland to Bangladesh, Prof Dr.M. Abdus Soban, Vice-Chancellor of Rajshahi University and Mr. Md. Abdul Hannan, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi graced the opening session as the guests of honour while Dr. Derek Mueller spoke on Swiss contribution to the rural development of Bangladesh.
The development fair brought an opportunity for IUCN to display and showcase the co-management approach for wetland management designed and practised in Tangua Haor Ramsar site. The beauty, life and resources of Tanguar Haor displayed by resourceful publications and audio-visual productions in the project stall were well received by all the visitors including teachers and scholars of the university. The presentation of the management approach made them aware of the worth of community participation for wetland resource management. Cultural programme with participation of the Swiss Development Corporation (SDC) partners and a discussion session on role of media and other actors in rural development in Bangladesh were also held during the development fair.
Through this colourful and festive environment of the fair, the visitors, particularly the students had an opportunity to learn about the contribution of SDC towards sustainable development of Bangladesh in the fields of livelihood improvement, resource management, women development, poverty eradication, disaster management and climate change adaptation.
