Members of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Technical Committee on Environment have endorsed the new SADC Biodiversity Action Plan for approval by the SADC Ministers of Environment at the next Ministerial meeting in May 2013. The SADC Technical Committee meeting, which was held from April 9 – 12, in Gaborone, Botswana, convened 11 SADC Member States who thoroughly reviewed and discussed the final draft of the Action Plan that was presented by IUCN ESARO.

Powered by Nature: social media student competition for nature-based solutions to energy challenges

Today, IUCN’s Commission on Education and Communication and Alcoa Foundation announced the launch of the Powered by Nature competition in which European communications students are challenged to co-create a social media campaign. The goal of the final campaign is to raise awareness of “natural solutions” for energy and encourage the young generation to become "powered by nature". Students will work together with experts from environmental organisations and communications agencies on their final submissions.
