Alison Sudol, American singer, songwriter and pianist has been named as IUCN’s Goodwill Ambassador for the United States.
Alison has been described as one of the most talented young singers and songwriters today and has been in the charts in the United States, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Poland and France, among other countries. As an IUCN Goodwill Ambassador, she intends to spread the word on issues close to the heart of IUCN, to thousands of fans around the world.
“Artists have an amazing reach and influence over people’s hearts and minds, and music is one of the most universal and powerful means of communication”, says Julia Marton-Lefèvre, IUCN Director General. “I am delighted to welcome Alison Sudol as IUCN’s Goodwill Ambassador, and look forward to working together with this talented and committed musician to inspire millions of people around the world to cherish and respect nature.”
The natural world has had a deep impact on Alison throughout her life and nature has been a great source of inspiration for her work - she makes a reference to nature in almost every song she writes.
“It was both a surprise and a tremendous honour to be asked to become a Goodwill Ambassador for IUCN. I’m very excited about working with this wonderful organization,” says Alison. “As part of this, I would like to find new ways to engage people, especially those of my generation and younger, in conservation and regeneration of their environment. I think that there are so many people out there who want to do something to help, but don't know how, and as an artist, I have a platform, a way of talking to them and giving them some ideas.”
Alison’s music has been featured on television shows such as 'The Late Show with David Letterman' and 'House', and on the soundtrack of the film 'Sleepwalking'.
