Keith Wheeler, CEC Chair, introduces the theme of the December newsletter: Climate Change.
IUCN reports that the foundation for a climate deal was laid in Cancún, Mexico, at the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) earlier this month. The IUCN website offers extensive coverage of the event, which was attended by several CEC members. CEC members are engaged in climate change activities around the world, like those highlighted here in this newsletter. For example, CEC members have worked closely with the IUCN Climate Change Coordinator to develop a new IUCN Climate Science e-Learning module.
Also, I am pleased to announce that Sarah Stokes Alexander will be CEC Specialty Group Leader for Agro-security and Biofuels. And there's more good news: the campaign created for the International Year of Biodiversity, in which CEC was actively involved, has won a 2010 Green Award.
In this last newsletter of 2010, I would like to thank you for all that you do on behalf of conservation and sustainability. With warm wishes for the happiest of holidays and a greener New Year,
Keith Wheeler, Chair
IUCN Commission on Education and Communication
