Forum of Marine Protected Areas in the Mediterranean 2012

25-28 November 2012, Turkey

This forum will focus on setting the pace to reach the 2020 targets of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), to achieve comprehensive, effectively managed, and ecologically representative national and regional systems of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs).

Other aspects to be discussed are the current situation of Marine protected Areas (MPA) in the region, lessons learned, synergies and dialogue among decision makers, MPA managers, scientists, European, Mediterranean and International institutions, and the development of cooperation to secure a long-term operational model for the Mediterranean MPAs network.

The IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation will be in attendance and is organizing three events related to climate change & MPAs; invasive species & MPAs; and achieving effective MPA management (through a guide to evaluate Mediterranean MPA management).
