IUCN members define the Programme for Zimbabwe

IUCN members in Zimbabwe met on Friday 20th March 2009 and agreed to define the possible IUCN Programme for Zimbabwe. During the meeting, members suggested priority areas for IUCN in Zimbabwe and identified a core team to develop the IUCN Programme in Zimbabwe and develop project proposals for implementing the Programme. The team comprises one member from the Secretariat, member organization and Commissions. Some of the areas that have come up in previous discussions are the restoration of degraded ecosystems, environment and poverty as well as the linkages between ecosystems, livelihoods and food security.

IUCN ESARO prepares the ground for effective membership engagement

In keeping with the IUCN Barcelona commitments, the IUCN Secretariat is positioning itself to facilitate effective engagement of members and Commissions in the work of the Union. A senior position was created within the Secretariat to ensure improved support to members and commissions. The Head of Constituency is now based in the Pretoria Office with strong links to both the program and the constituency office in IUCN Headquarters.
