Commitments coming through in Rio

21 June 2012 | News story

As world leaders pour in to Rio de Janeiro for the UN's Sustainable Development Summit civil society, business and governments are making commitments that will make a difference, according to IUCN's Director General Julia Marton-Lefèvre.

So where exactly are these commitments coming from.

One of the highlights of the event have been the Sustainability Dialogues, which for the first time opened up the UN system to civil society and business inviting participants here and around the world to have their say on key issues.

So, even as we wait for the deal to be ratified by governments, there's still a sense of mobilisation here in Rio that builds upon the original Earth Summit of 20 years ago.
