World Environment Day celebrations in Balochistan

World Environment Day is celebrated every year on 5th June in more than 100 countries of the World. Pakistan is not an exception. Therefore IUCN Balochistan Programme also celebrated the WED, 09 with complete zeal in all six districts, namely Quetta, Pishin, Mastung. Qila Saifullah, Lasbela and Gwadar.

Quetta Office jointly celebrated the WED,09 with UNICEF, City District Government, BEPA, and BEEJ in Officers Club Quetta. Provincial minister Excise and Taxation Rustam Jamali, Secretary Environment Munir Ahmed Badini, DG BEPA Ghulam Rasool Jamali, Mr. Ghulam Qadir Lehri form City District Govt, Muhammad Hussain Baloch from UNICEF, Manzoor Ahmed Chief Conservator Forest Sardar Naseer Tareen from SUSG, Asia and people from Media, Students, Academia, senior citizens, people from different walks of life  enormously participated in the event. Mr. Zabardast Khan Bangash, Manager IUCN Balochistan Programme highlighted the significance of WED and its theme “Combating Climate Change” in his presentation which was highly applauded by the audiences.

Besides exceptional media outreach was given to trickle down the awareness among the general public regarding theme of the year “climate change” and general environmental issues through private and official television channels through interviews of Manager Balochistan Programme on BBC URDU World Service , ARY, SAMA, DAWN NEWS, GEO, PTV and EXPRESS News.  The interviews were shown on the very day through out the daily news bulletins while one interview on DAWN NEWS was shown on 6th of June, 09.


World Environment Day 2009 in Ziarat

To commemorate the “World Environment Day 2009” at Ziarat, IUCN Ziarat office organized a speech competition in collaboration with Al-Hijra Trust of UK. The topic of the speech contest was “investment on environment is wastage of resources”. Students were invited to deliver speeches in favor and against of the topic. The event started with the name of Allah. Syed Ghulam Muhammad, Project Manager, Juniper Forest Conservation Project; welcomed the event participants and highlighted the importance of the day. Students were provided opportunity to deliver the speeches; first in Urdu and then in English language. A total of four students delivered the speeches - two in Urdu and two in English languages. The students were given a warm response from the co-students during the delivery of their speeches. The ideas, views and logics expressed by students were heart wining during the contest. A large number of community elders, notables, members, students of the institute, media men and general public of the Ziarat district including the district’s functionaries attended the event. Former Country Representative – IUCN Pakistan and renowned forester Mr. A. L Rao was the chief guest on the occasion. The judges gauged the performance of the participating students. And three positions were announced. Chief guest of the event Mr. A. L. Rao congratulated the students and presented the trophies to position holders. He appreciated their effort and emphasized them to play their positive and important role in making our environment cleaner and conserve it for the future generations. In last, Syed Ghulam Muhammad, Project Manager, Juniper Forest Conservation Project presented the honorary shields to Mr. A. L Rao and Mr. Tariq Hussain (vice principle, Al-Hijra Trust UK). The event ended with vote of thanks by the vice principle of Al-Hijra Trust UK.


World Environment Day 2009 in Qila Saifullah

IUCN Pakistan district office Qila Saifullah celebrated successfully World Environment Day,09 in Government Model High School Muslim Bagh . More than 900 students, Officers, Nazims participated in the walk and the District Coordination Officer; Qila Saifullah participated in indoor activities. the Walk started from Model high school through main city, Masjid road to Nazim office to PA rest House and end at High School Muslim Bagh. The Police departments Muslim Bagh especially,   fully cooperated during the whole activity. Messages regarding environment and nature conveyed through Banners play cards and charts to general public and through speeches to students, CSO and Teacher in indoor activities. The DCO Qila Saifullah came especially for this activity from Qila Saifullah, thanks him for promoting such important cause. After the speeches, DCO Qila Saifullah distributed certificates and gifts among the deserved students.
