Chairperson, Sub-Committee of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Environment, Marvi Memon visits Ziarat Project office of IUCN

ZIARAT March 4, 2010: Marvi Memon, Member National Assembly Pakistan and Chairperson, Sub-Committee of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Environment visited the Juniper project at Ziarat. Soon after her arrival at Quetta airport, she was taken to the IUCN Ziarat office, where she was welcomed by Syed Ghulam Muhammad, Project Manager, Juniper Forest Conservation Project, IUCN Pakistan.
After a brief round of introduction with the project staff and community members of the project areas, Syed Ghulam Muhammad briefed her about the Juniper project. She showed keen interest in the work of the IUCN Pakistan at Ziarat.
District Coordination Officer, Ziarat District, Mr. Muhammad Siddique Mandokhel also joined her during the project briefing.
She was then taken for a field visit to the Juniper project sites. She appreciated different schemes of the project including the Integrated Water Resource Management model, flood protection nursery, water reservoirs, conduit, Karez, and water channels at various places.
A meeting with project community members was also organized at the historic Chautair rest house. She interacted with the Juniper project community members. Different interventions of the project were also discussed in detail.
She made note of the needs of the area and prepared a set of recommendations.
